OUR OFFERINGS

The Transformative Teaching Collective is dedicated to engaging groups of all types in cultivating anti-racist, relational skills from an intersectional lens. 

From multi-session series to stand-alone workshops, we deliver our curricula through a variety of remote and in-person formats. Our purpose is to design community and organizational offerings that energize personal and political liberation through intentional dialogue. ​

From Social Identities to social justice

This workshop will allow us to share the pride and possibly the pain associated with our various social identities. As we explore the different ways we all experience racism, sexism, heterosexism/homophobia, class inequality, etc. we will discover ways to unite more authentically around goals of solidarity and social justice. Using interactive exercises and structured dialogue we will practice using empathy and perspective-taking to build our capacity to confront the interlocking oppression around us.

intercultural Competency: knowledge and practice

Intercultural competency is both knowledge and practice. This workshop will give you a working knowledge of the basic concepts related to bias awareness and cultural competence.  You will also have the opportunity to practice handling real-life workplace scenarios that require effective cross-cultural communication based on openness and empathy.

Can we talk? the labels and language of social identities

Does the everyday language we use to talk about race, sexuality, disabilities, etc. perpetuate biases? Do we speak a common language regarding social identities or are we often mislabeling each other? Caucasian, crippled, queer…Words that are offensive to some, may be powerfully reclaimed by others. Bring your questions and be prepared to delve beyond “political correctness” to a deeper, more thoughtful way to talk about diversity.

Power and identity in the workplace

This dialogue will focus on how power dynamics sometimes shape the work environment. The session will help us understand and address workplace tensions commonly associated with differences in position titles, credentials, social identities or rank.  We will share strategies for navigating workplace relationships through the use of positive, productive and mutually respectful communication and conflict-transformation strategies.

from snap judgements to micro-agressions: an anti-bias workshop

What are the biases, judgments or insecurities that prevent you from having a more inclusive network or outlook on diversity? How might these biases be revealed to others by your actions and language? The interactive exercises in this session will allow you to learn something new about your co-workers, identify your biases, and take away a fresh perspective.

leading with social justice values

Whether you are a supervisor or entry level employee you have the potential to use your leadership to make a positive impact in your workplace. This workshop will consider a core set of social justice values and allow participants to identify their own strengths in promoting those values as well the challenges that go along with becoming a more effective leader for equity and fairness.

undoing racism

This dialogue will allow us to explore the interrelated nature of interpersonal, institutional and internalized racism and share strategies for opposing racism as a system based on power inequities and prejudice.

gendered communication

Does your gender affect the way your friends, co-workers and family members hear what you have to say?  Participate in interactive exercises designed to illustrate how gender often goes unquestioned while still shaping our verbal and non-verbal interactions with one another. Learn more about the range of gender-based identities beyond the categories of men and women, and learn strategies to express yourself to all genders effectively.

​identity conflicts and strategic peace building

What is the difference between conflict resolution and conflict transformation? This workshop explores the idea that conflict can be a gift that allows us to go beyond resolving the episode of conflict to understanding the epicenter of historical struggles that keep us divided. Learn how to analyze interpersonal and structural conflicts based on methods from the growing field of Peace Studies.

Confronting chauvinism, Sexism and misogyny: supportive strategies for novice and experienced feminists

Are you comfortable acknowledging and addressing persistent sexism? Do you need more concrete facts and figures to “prove” that gender discrimination still exists? Are you looking for support to move yourself from a position of blame or shame to one of solidarity and action? This dialogue is intended to strengthen your workplace through cross-cultural, creative strategies for eradicating gender inequity in its many forms.

white privilege: who has it? Why does it matter?

Wealthy or not, if you have ever been identified as a white person in the United States then chances are at least one form of privilege has been extended to you that people of color cannot easily count on. Learn how to use white privilege to take an effective stand against racism.
